Our sourcing

Where the deal starts.

GoodLot doesn't buy mystery inventory. We focus on traceable retail clearance and brand overstock — products with a clear reason for the discount.

The goal is simple: before you buy, you should understand where the product came from, what changed, and why the price is lower.

Traceable inventory, not mystery pallets.

01 / Two main sources

Different reasons. Same requirement: the source has to make sense.

Closeout inventory is normal in retail. What matters is whether the reason for the discount can be explained clearly.

Retail shelves and store inventory
Store Clearance Usually new / open box

Retail inventory cleared for space, shelf resets, seasonal changes, location changes or store closures.

Often limited quantities with no predictable restock.
Can include brand-new products with normal retail packaging.
Open-box or packaging condition is disclosed separately.
Warehouse inventory prepared for distribution
Brand Overstock Usually brand new

Surplus stock created when brands or authorized channels hold more inventory than the market needs.

Often driven by over-ordering, demand shifts or packaging updates.
The product can remain current even when packaging changes.
Usually sold as brand new when the product itself has not been used.

02 / Why it costs less

The discount is created before the product reaches GoodLot.

A lower price does not automatically mean a lower-quality product. Often, the economics changed because the retail route changed.

01
Traditional retail creates excess.

Inventory is left behind by normal merchandising and purchasing decisions.

02
The inventory leaves the normal shelf.

Its original retail route changes, which changes the economics around it.

03
GoodLot prices the new route.

You see the selling price beside a reference price, with source and condition disclosed.

03 / What we avoid

Cheap is not enough.

GoodLot is built around explainable inventory. If the source, condition or pricing story cannot be presented clearly, the deal becomes harder to trust.

?
Mystery inventory

Products with no useful sourcing context or a vague reason for why they are discounted.

Unclear condition

Listings where packaging damage, open-box status or product condition is hidden inside fine print.

$
Price without context

A low number alone is not enough. The selling price should be understandable beside a reference price.

!
Discount theater

We want the reason for the deal to come from the inventory route, not from exaggerated merchandising.

Modern home with carefully selected consumer products

04 / Traceable before you buy

The source belongs on the product card — not buried in a policy page.

That's why GoodLot surfaces the important parts early. Source type, condition and pricing context should be visible before checkout.

05 / From inventory to opportunity

The product can be completely normal. The reason it is discounted is often operational.

Extra inventory may come from store changes, shelf resets, over-ordering or packaging transitions. GoodLot focuses on making that route visible instead of turning it into a mystery.

Excess inventory can still be excellent inventory.

Good sourcing, made visible

Know the source. Understand the deal.

GoodLot is not trying to make closeout inventory feel mysterious. The point is to make the reason for the discount easier to see.
